Chege is interested almost in anything from a tiny jumping spider to the extra-large African Elephant, though his main passion lies in the fascinating world of birds in East Africa. Formerly a fulltime field ornithologist at the Department of Ornithology, National Museums of Kenya and his duties including bird banding/ringing, where he gained crucial knowledge and understanding of his native birdlife both in the hands and in the field.

He also worked as museum’s guide and that made him an all-round naturalist including interest on prehistory/paleontology and anthropologies.

Has been involved on training of national and local birding safari guides including Tanzania and Rwanda and has lectured on Fundamentals of Ornithology Course for 15yrs, a course run by the National Museums of Kenya & Nature Kenya (Birdlife International partner).

A member of the Bird Committee of the Nature Kenya. His birdlist in Kenya alone has grown to well over 975 species since his introduction to birding in 1999. Occasionally, teaching local communities on how to make the fireless cookers that eventually saves some bits of the forest.

He holds a bronze medal from Kenya Professional Safari Guide Association (KPSGA).

He’s also an accomplished wildlife photographer and keen in getting better and loves recording bird songs.

Watching and finding birds (including the hard and specialties ones) are both his hobby and therefore be warned that you are paying him to do what he likes most.
