Uganda Birding Tour- 25 Days

A Uganda Birding Tour covering diverse birdlife and wildlife, wetlands to snow-capped mountain. It’s a tour that records more less 500 species of birds.
Birding in Africa with a visit to great Uganda birding sites for birds such as the sort-after Shoebill, African Green Broadbill, Green-breasted Pitta and other Albertine Rift Endemics including Handsome francolin, Rwenzori Turaco, Rwenzori Nightjar, Dwarf Honeyguide, African Green Broadbill, Kivu Ground Thrush, Red-throated Alethe, Archer’s Robin-chat, Collared Apalis , Mountain Masked, Grauer’s Scrub Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Neumann’s Warbler, Red-faced woodland warbler, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Rwenzori Batis, Stripe-breasted Tit, Blue-headed Sunbird, Regal Sunbird, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Dusky Crimsonwing, Shelley’s Crimsonwing Strange Weaver.
It’s a private guided tour for groups between 1-6 person per car per guide all with guaranteed window seat.

Day 1: Entebbe Mabamba Swamp

Our first day of this epic Uganda Birding Tour is an early morning boat launch on a nearby Mabamba Swamp famous for the fossil-living Shoebill. Other birds may include Lesser Jacana, African Marsh Harrier, Red-chested Sunbird, Swamp Flycatcher, Yellow-backed Weaver, Blue-headed Coucal, Northern Brown-throated Weaver.

Later birding in the afternoon at Mpanga Forest.

Day 2: Entebbe -Lake Mburo National Park

Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and birding here may bring out such birds like Lizard Buzzard, Bateleur, Long-crested Eagle, Grey Kestrel, Grey Crowned Crane, African Wattled Plover, Speckled Pigeon, Brown Parrot, Great Blue Turaco (one of the highlight of any Uganda Birding Tour), Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Eastern Grey Plantain-eater, Cuchoos, White-browed Coucal.

Blue-naped Mousebird, Kingfishers, Rollers, Hornbills, Barbets, Woodpeckers, Larks, Swallows, Cisticolas, Flycatchers, Babblers, Sunbirds, Shrikes, Black-headed Gonolek, Starlings, Weavers, Finches, Waxbills among others.

Day 3: Lake Mburo National Park

Whole day birding in Lake Mburo National Park where we  expect birds such as Lappet-faced & African White-backed Vultures, Saddle-billed & Wooly-necked Storks, Crested Francolin, Ross’ Turaco, Broad-billed Roller, Sulphur-breasted Bush-shrike, Long-toed Plover, Double-toothed Barbet, Red-headed Lovebird, White-backed Heron, African Finfoot. Another highlight of this Uganda Birding Tour is a Black-faced Barbet a star of the park.

Day 4: Lake Mburo National Park – Mgahinga National Park.

Morning of birding in Lake Mburo National Park and transfer to Mgahinga National Park.

 

Here we hope to find specialties such as the Archer`s Robin-chat, Kivu Ground Thrush, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Regal Sunbird, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, among others. While a Shelley’s Crimson-wing and the charming Rwenzori Turaco, which would be the star birds of the site on our Uganda Birding Tour

Day 5: Mgahinga National Park

We spend the whole day birding in the forest in Mgahinga National Park and Echuya Forest. More chances for more special birds a wait for this special Uganda Birding Tour.

Day 6: Mgahinga National Park – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Ruhija.

Morning of birding in Mgahinga National Park in search of any missing species and later transfer to one of the most famous protected area in Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a superb Uganda Birding Tour.

Day 7 & 8: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Ruhija

Birding today will be spend in search of the endemics, localized among other common birds. Some of the specialties on any Uganda Birding Tour includes Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Montane Masked Apalis, Regal Sunbird, Rwenzori Hill Babbler, Stripe-breasted Tit, Strange Weaver, Archer’s Robin-Chat, Rwenzori Apalis, Blue-headed Sunbird, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Graur’s Rush Warbler, Black Bee-eater.

 

While other common birds may be among Tambourine Dove, Great blue Turaco, Black-billed Turaco, Yellowbill, Speckled Mousebird, Red-throated Wryneck,  Red-faced Cisticola, Chubb’s Cisticola, White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, Cassin’s-grey Flycatcher, African Blue-flycatcher.

Day 9: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Buhoma

Our Uganda Birding Tour transfer to Buhoma for more species such as Woodhouse’s Antpecker, Narrow-tailed Starling, Red-throated Alethe, Short-tailed Warbler, Blue-throated Brown Sunbird, Black Bee-eater, Grey-throated Tit-Flycatcher, plus Green Hylia, Bar-tailed Trogon, Thick-billed seedeater,  Banded Prinia, Olive Pigeon, Yellow Steaked Greenbul, Olive Woodpecker, Grey-headed Sunbird, Black-billed Weaver. We will track the Mountain Gorillas here if not Rihija.

Day 10: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Queen Elizabeth National Park

Leave Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park through the Ishasha sector arriving in the late afternoon. This Uganda Bird Tour may produce  a Cassin’s Grey Flycatcher on our way to the lodge.

 

Other birds may include Brown Snake Eagle, Wahlberg’s Eagle, Long-crested Eagle, African Crake, Little Bee-eater, Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, Spot-flanked Barbets, White-headed Barbet, Double-toothed Barbet, Flappet Lark, Sooty Chats, Brown-backed Scrub-Robin, Winding Cisticola, Swamp flycatcher, Chin-spot Batis, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Red-chested Sunbird, Black-headed Gonolek, Black-crowned Tchagra, Fork-tailed Drongo, Fan-tailed Widowbird, Red-billed Firefinch, Golden-breasted Bunting.

 

Mammals may include African Elephant, Waterbuck, Topi, Uganda Kob, Cape Buffalo, Common Warthog and the majestic Forest Hog.

Day 11: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Game drive and birding in the park and later in the afternoon our Uganda Birding Tour takes us birding from a boat launch  on the Kazinga Channel.  During the launch trip we may see a variety of wildlife, huge schools of hippos, crocodiles and a variety of birdlife from a boat for two hours.  Sometimes the African Skimmer may be seen in big numbers.

Green-backed Heron, Storks, African Spoonbill, Martial Eagle,  Kittlitz’s Plover, Senegal Lapwing, African Wattled Lapwing, Yellow-throated Longclaw among other birds seen.

 

Look out for mammals like Uganda Kob, Cape Bushbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, Cape Buffalo,  African Elephant, Common Warthog, when lucky a leopard, spotted Hyena and Lion among others.

Day 12: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Kibale National Park

After breakfast and set off for a game drive/birding heading towards Kibale. Look out for birds like African White-backed Vulture, Lizard Buzzard, Grey-headed Kingfisher, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, White-browed Robin-Chat, Lesser Striped Swallow, Rufous-napped Lark, Flappet Lark, Yellow-throated Longclaw, Zitting Cisticola, African Blue Flycatcher, Babblers, Brown-backed Scrub-robin, Sooty Chat, Black-headed Gonolek, Grey-backed Shrike, Common Fiscal, Starlings, Pied Crow, Piapiac, Fork-tailed Drongo, Weavers, Widowbirds among others.

Day 13: Kibale National Park

This is the main park we’ll be looking for Green-breasted Pitta among others like White-tailed Ant Thrush, Speckled Tinkerbird, Buff-throated Apalis, Little Greenbul, Buff-spotted Woodpecker, Black Bee-eater, Sabine’s Spinetail, Grey Parrot, White-breasted Nigrofinch, Yellow-spotted Barbet. While here we will visit the Bigodi Swamp in the afternoon and birds such as the White-winged Swamp Warbler, Papyrus Gonolek and we hope to come across a Red Colobus Monkey.

Day 14: Kibale National Park

Today we will after breakfast head out in to the forest tracking for Chimps.  More time spent birding after the tracking and afternoon spent in search of missing birds.

Day 15: Kibale National Park- Fort Portal

After this whole day of Uganda birding tour in Kibale National Park transfer to Fort Portal.

Day 16: Fort Portal- Semliki National Park

Transfer to Semliki National Park, where a little of Central African Biome stretches into the western Uganda and primarily in Semliki Valley National Park. It’s also one of Africa’s most ancient and bio-diverse forests These birds may include if lucky Black-casqued Wattled Hornbill, Congo Serpent-Eagle, Nkulengu Rail, Long-tailed Hawk among others such as Swamp Palm Bulbul, Lowland Akalat, Oberlaender’s Ground-Thrush, Yellow-throated Nicator Western Nicator,  Piping Hornbill, Red-billed Dwarf Hornbill, White-crested Hornbill,  Blue-billed Malimbe.

Day 17: Semliki National Park

Our Uganda Birding Tour spends another day in the forest on the famous Kirumia trail.  Birds may include Yellow-throated Cuckoo, Black Bee-eater, White thighed Hornbill, Piping Hornbill, White-crested Hornbill, Red-billed Dwarf Hornbill, Black dwarf Hornbill, Grey-headed Sunbird, Red-rumped Tinkerbird, Rufous-sided Broadbill, Icterine Greenbul, Xavier’s Greenbul, Lowland Akalat, Jameson’s Wattle-eye, Blue-headed Crested-flycatcher, Maxwell’s Weaver, Crested Malimbe, Red-bellied Malimbe, Orange-cheeked Waxbill and lucky chance for African Piculet among others.

Day 19: Semliki National Park - Masindi

Search for any missing birds in Semliki before our Uganda birding tour transfer to Masindi. Western banded Snake Eagle, Lizard Buzzard, Blue-throated Roller.

Day 20: Masindi – budongo Forest

Visit Budongo Forest and spend our Uganda birding tour along the famous Royal Mile.  Birds of the day may include  White-thighed Hornbill, Ituri Batis, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Fraser’s Ant Thrush, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Purple-headed Starling, Dwarf Kingfisher, Brown-eared Woodpecker, Chocolate-backed Kingfisher, Yellow-crested Woodpecker, Yellowbill, Forest Flycatcher, Red-bellied Paradise Flycatcher, Red-tailed Ant Thrush, Purple Starling, Purple-headed Starling.

Day 21: Masindi – Murchison Falls National Park

Birding in Murchison’s Fall National Park. Birds may include Red-throated Bee-eater, Africa Palm Swift, Palmnut Vulture, Western Banded Snake Eagle, Wattled Plover, Violet-backed Starling, Black-headed Batis,  Northern Crombec, Black-billed Wooddove, Silverbird, Red-fronted Tinkerbird, Black-crowned Tchagra, Fox and Crocking Cisticola, Copper’s Sunbird, Northern Red Bishop, Pennant-winged Nightjar, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Senegal Thickknee, Yellow-billed Shrike, Rock Pratincole, African Darter.

Day 24: Murchison Falls National Park

Birding in Murchison’s Fall National Park in srearch of birds we may have missed and later in the afternoon take a boat launch to the falls. We will keep un eye of the Rock Pratincole.

Transfer to Entebbe for dinner and to the airport for your outbound flight.
